CLUB SERVICE ACTIVITIES

Chairperson:  Rosemary Smith

Rotary Radio Auction

The largest fundraiser for the Rotary Club of Gaylord is the annual radio auction held on the second Thursday in November.  Over $180,000 has been raised over the last six years to help support our Club's Community and World Service projects.  The 2005 Radio Auction was held at the beautiful Otsego Club and Resort and broadcast live over Eagle 101.5 FM from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m.  Rotarians solicit auction items and cash donations from various businesses and assist in the setup, on air broadcast and clean up of the auction.  All Rotarians are actively invloved in this exciting event.

Rotary Indoor Garage Sale

The Rotary Club of Gaylord hosted its second annual indoor garage sale on March 4, 2006.  This event was concieved by Rotarians itching for something to do before cabin fever took over.  These events have raised over $6,500, with the Otsego Memorial Hospital as the primary benefactor for its building expansion campaign.  The 3rd Annual Garage Sale will take place the first Saturday in March, 2007.  All Rotarians will be actively involved in procuring items to be sold.

Fellowship Opportunities

The development of acquaintances as an opportunity for service is a very important element to the Club Service Avenue.  As a result, our Club offers many fellowship events, including:

  • Summer Cook-Out.  Rotarians and their families gather for a summer evening at the Otsego County park for some fun in the sun, where Board Members cook the meats while Rotarians share the fellowship of one another.
  • Euchre Tournament.  Do you think that you are one to the better Euchre players in Otsego County?  Put your talents to the test in our Rotary Club's Euchre Tournament.  This tournament tests your skills since you will be paired with a different person each game.  Every game.  Points are accumulated and the winner receives a gift from the club.  What a wonderful fellowship opportunity for Rotarians.
  • Detroit Tigers Outing.  How will the Boys of Summer repeat their World Series ride of 2006?  This is not known, but the excitement is in the air as a bus load of Rotarians, along with family members and guests, will travel to Comerica Park in Detroit to partake in the festivities surrounding the Detroit Tigers in MLB action.
